Welcome

Welcome to Res Biblica!

Ang Biblista

This is an AgustinongPinoy website that takes the place of Bible Notes and The Bible Corner which for some time offered materials on Catholic Bible Apologetics and Resources that could help the bible enthusiast deepen his/her appreciation of the Scriptures.

As of the moment, AgustinongPinoy has two other bible sites, Otium Sanctum and The Bible Workshop which offer explanations of the biblical readings for the mass and provide links to resources on the web respectively. To these two, Mga Ulat Pinoy also offers blogs about the Scriptures in Filipino. A fourth website is that of The Mystical Geek which offers reflections on matters that are sometimes biblical.

“Res Biblica” is Latin for “Biblical Topic”. As such this website will be complementing “Otium Sanctum” (theological), “The Mystical Geek” (spiritual), “The Bible Workshop” (practical) with something that is exegetical. There will be moments when the subject matters of “Res Biblical” and “Otium Sanctum” will cross, but that would be due more to the nature of the subject that will be dealt with.

The main objectives of this site are the following:

  1. Provide tips for Catholic Biblical Apologetics
  2. Explain difficult passages or point to resources on the web when it is possible
  3. Provide exegetical tips for catechists and others who may have need of them
  4. Offer materials for study and reflection by way of short essays on particular topics

I hope that as you have found Bible Notes and Bible Corner useful, you would find the materials offered here as informative, if not as interesting.

Help Me Out

This website will be providing articles and notes on very specific topics that are intended to help a bible reader understand the text of scriptures. While we know that some modern translations already provide ancillary notes to help the intelligent reader understand a particular text, we know too that the editors of a given bible version can only do so much in publishing marginal notes and footnotes. It is part of the objective of this website to clarify what terseness has left unexplained. If you would like to contribute to this website, then, I would be very interested in the kind of difficulties you have in understanding a given text or passage of the Scriptures. Register for an account and post something at the forum. Perhaps something from you — a question or a brief observation — can inspire me to write on a subject that you”d find informative if not interesting.
